Ask Price Forex
The price at which a seller is willing to sell a currency. It is usually higher than the bid price, and the difference between them is the spread.
Altcoin Crypto
Any cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin. Examples include Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, and thousands of others, each with different purposes and functionalities.
Allocation PAMM
The portion of the total PAMM fund that belongs to each investor. Profits and losses are distributed proportionally according to each investor's allocation percentage.
Arbitrage General
The practice of taking advantage of price differences between two or more markets. Traders buy an asset in one market and simultaneously sell it in another market at a higher price, profiting from the temporary price difference.
Base Currency Forex
The first currency quoted in a currency pair. For example, in the EUR/USD pair, EUR is the base currency. It represents how much of the quote currency (USD) is needed to purchase one unit of the base currency.
Blockchain Crypto
A decentralized, distributed ledger that records transactions across multiple computers. Each block contains a timestamp and a link to the previous block, forming a chain. This technology underpins cryptocurrencies and ensures transparency and security.
Bull Market General
A financial market in which prices are rising or expected to rise. This term is commonly used to refer to the stock market but can apply to anything that is traded, such as currencies, commodities, or cryptocurrencies.
Broker General
An individual or firm that acts as an intermediary between buyers and sellers in financial markets. Brokers execute trades on behalf of clients and typically charge a commission or fee for their services.
Currency Pair Forex
The quotation of two different currencies, with the value of one currency being quoted against the other. The first currency in the pair is the base currency, and the second is the quote currency (e.g., EUR/USD, GBP/JPY).
Cryptocurrency Crypto
A digital or virtual currency that uses cryptography for security and operates on a technology called blockchain. Cryptocurrencies are typically not issued by any central authority, making them potentially immune to government interference or manipulation.
Compound Interest General
Interest calculated on the initial principal and also on the accumulated interest from previous periods. In trading, compounding refers to reinvesting profits to generate more returns over time.
Correlation General
The statistical measure of the relationship between two assets. A positive correlation indicates that the assets tend to move in the same direction, while a negative correlation means they move in opposite directions.
Day Trading General
The practice of buying and selling financial instruments within the same trading day. Day traders close out all positions by the end of the trading day, avoiding overnight risk.
Decentralized Finance (DeFi) Crypto
A blockchain-based form of finance that doesn't rely on central financial intermediaries such as banks to offer financial instruments. DeFi platforms enable users to lend, borrow, trade, and earn interest on crypto assets.
Drawdown PAMM
The peak-to-trough decline during a specific record period of an investment or PAMM account. A drawdown is usually quoted as the percentage between the peak and the subsequent trough and is a measure of downside risk.
Demo Account General
A practice account offered by trading platforms that allows users to trade with virtual money. Demo accounts help traders practice strategies and familiarize themselves with the platform without risking real capital.
Exchange Rate Forex
The value of one currency in terms of another. Exchange rates can be floating (determined by market forces) or fixed (set by central banks).
Ethereum Crypto
An open-source, blockchain-based platform that enables the creation of smart contracts and decentralized applications. Ether (ETH) is the native cryptocurrency of the Ethereum platform and the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization after Bitcoin.
Equity General
The total value of an investment account, including the initial capital, realized profits/losses, and unrealized profits/losses from open positions. In PAMM accounts, each investor's equity is calculated proportionally based on their allocation.
Expert Advisor (EA) Forex
An automated trading program that runs on the MetaTrader platform. EAs can analyze market data, identify trading opportunities, and execute trades automatically based on predefined rules and strategies.
Fundamental Analysis General
A method of evaluating the intrinsic value of an asset by analyzing economic, financial, and other qualitative and quantitative factors. For currencies, this includes studying interest rates, inflation, economic growth, and political factors.
Futures Contract General
A standardized agreement to buy or sell an asset at a predetermined price at a specified time in the future. Futures contracts are used for hedging or speculating on price movements.
Fiat Currency Crypto
Government-issued currency that is not backed by a physical commodity such as gold or silver but rather by the government that issued it. Examples include the US Dollar, Euro, and Japanese Yen.
Forex (Foreign Exchange) Forex
The global marketplace for buying and selling currencies. It is the largest and most liquid financial market in the world, with an average daily trading volume exceeding $6 trillion.
MAMM (Multi-Account Management Module) PAMM
A system that allows a money manager to manage multiple trading accounts simultaneously. Unlike PAMM, where funds are pooled in a single account, MAMM creates separate accounts for each investor while enabling the manager to execute trades across all accounts at once.
Margin General
The amount of collateral required to open or maintain a leveraged trading position. Margin is typically expressed as a percentage of the full position size and allows traders to control larger positions with a relatively small amount of capital.
Mining Crypto
The process of validating transactions on a blockchain network and adding them to the blockchain ledger. Miners use powerful computers to solve complex mathematical problems, and in return, they receive newly minted cryptocurrency as a reward.
Market Order General
An order to buy or sell an asset immediately at the current market price. Market orders guarantee execution but do not guarantee a specific price.
PAMM (Percentage Allocation Management Module) PAMM
An investment system that allows investors to allocate funds to experienced money managers. The manager trades a pooled account, and profits or losses are distributed proportionally among all investors based on their share of the total capital.
Pip Forex
The smallest price movement in a trading pair. For most currency pairs, a pip is 0.0001 (or 1/100th of a percent). For pairs involving the Japanese Yen, a pip is 0.01. Pips are used to calculate profits or losses and the spread between the bid and ask price.
Performance Fee PAMM
A fee charged by PAMM managers based on the profits generated for investors. Typically calculated as a percentage of new profits (usually 20-30%) and often subject to a high-water mark provision to ensure managers only get paid for new profits.
Position General
An open trade or investment that has not yet been closed. A long position means the trader has bought an asset expecting its value to increase, while a short position means the trader has sold an asset expecting its value to decrease.
Risk Management General
The process of identifying, analyzing, and accepting or mitigating uncertainty in investment decisions. Effective risk management strategies include position sizing, stop-loss orders, and portfolio diversification.
Rollover Forex
The process of extending the settlement date of an open position by closing the original contract and opening a new one for the same amount. In forex trading, this occurs when a position is held open overnight, resulting in either a credit or debit based on the interest rate differential between the two currencies.
Resistance Level General
A price level at which an asset faces selling pressure and may have difficulty breaking through. Resistance levels are identified by connecting previous price highs on a chart and are used by traders to predict potential price reversals.
ROI (Return on Investment) PAMM
A performance measure used to evaluate the efficiency of an investment. ROI is calculated by dividing the profit earned from an investment by the cost of the investment and is usually expressed as a percentage.
Spread Forex
The difference between the bid (sell) price and the ask (buy) price of an asset. The spread represents the transaction cost for traders and is a primary source of revenue for market makers and brokers.
Stop-Loss Order General
An order placed with a broker to sell an asset when it reaches a specific price. Stop-loss orders are designed to limit an investor's loss on a position and are an essential risk management tool.
Smart Contract Crypto
Self-executing contracts with the terms directly written into code. Smart contracts automatically enforce and execute the terms of an agreement when predetermined conditions are met, eliminating the need for intermediaries.
Staking Crypto
The process of actively participating in transaction validation on a proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain. Users lock up their coins to be randomly selected as validators, earning rewards in proportion to their stake.
Technical Analysis General
A trading methodology that analyzes statistical trends gathered from trading activity, such as price movement and volume. Technical analysts use chart patterns, technical indicators, and other tools to identify trading opportunities.
Take Profit General
An order placed with a broker to close a position when an asset reaches a specific price level. Take profit orders are used to secure profits once a predetermined target has been reached.
Trend General
The general direction in which an asset's price is moving. An uptrend is characterized by higher highs and higher lows, while a downtrend features lower highs and lower lows. Trading with the trend is a common strategy among traders.
Token Crypto
A digital asset issued on an existing blockchain, such as Ethereum. Unlike coins, which have their own blockchain, tokens are built on top of other cryptocurrency platforms and represent assets or utility within specific projects or ecosystems.
Volatility General
A statistical measure of the dispersion of returns for a given security or market index. Higher volatility indicates greater price fluctuations and is associated with higher risk and potential reward.
Volume General
The total number of assets exchanged during a given period. Trading volume is an important indicator used to confirm price trends and identify potential reversals.
VPS (Virtual Private Server) Forex
A virtual machine that provides dedicated resources for running trading software, such as expert advisors or automated trading systems. VPS services ensure 24/7 operation without local hardware limitations or internet disruptions.
Wallet (Crypto) Crypto
A digital tool that allows users to store, send, and receive cryptocurrencies. Wallets can be hardware devices, software applications, or online services that store the private keys needed to access cryptocurrency holdings.
Whipsaw General
A condition where a security's price heads in one direction but then quickly pivots to move in the opposite direction. Whipsaws often occur in volatile markets and can result in trading losses if stop-loss levels are not properly set.
Yield General
The income returned on an investment, such as interest or dividends received from holding an asset. In cryptocurrency, yield can be earned through staking, lending, or providing liquidity to decentralized exchanges.
Yield Farming Crypto
The practice of staking or lending crypto assets in order to generate high returns or rewards in the form of additional cryptocurrency. This is a common practice in decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystems.
